MGB Suspension & Steering

Suspension & Steering

The MGB used the classic MG design front wishbone, stub axle & coil spring combination. Attached to the crossmember were Armstrong lever arm dampers, forming an upper wishbone and connecting the stub axle to the lower wishbone. At the start of production an anti-roll bar up front was an optional extra. In 1965 the MGB GT was released and came with anti-roll bar as standard, this was then also a standard item for roadsters from 1967 onwards, but it was a thinner one to that on the GT. Semi elliptical rear springs were used on all models for the rear suspension with differing load ratings for each model. The springs were connected via a drop link to Armstrong hydraulic lever dampers. All MGB’s used conventional rack & pinion steering. A collapsible column was introduced for USA market cars from 1967 onwards, however this was not stand on home market cars until 1972.
