The 1.8i didn’t gain Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) as a standard fit until the start of the 1998 model year in mid 1997. From the 2000 model year facelift, an adjustable steering column was available.
MGF used a version of the Hydragas suspension system seen before on Metro going all the way back to the Austin Allegro of 1973 and related to the previous Hydrolastic suspension of the 1959 Mini and subsequently many other Austin cars.
All TF models feature Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) with a height adjustable steering column carried over from post 2000 model year MGFs. However, the TF steering differs significantly from the MGF in that the gearing of the steering rack was ‘quickened’ by 10% which reduced the steering wheels lock to lock turns from 3.1 to 2.8.
The TF uses conventional steel springs and integral telescopic dampers fully contained within the substantial subframes
