The A-series and A+ engine shares its oil between engine and gearbox, making effective filtration particularly important, debris from either system circulates through the other. The spin-on canister filter is standard, but the type and mounting position changed across production. The MPi engine from 1997 relocated the filter as part of the wider engine redesign.
Oil Coolers
Oil coolers provide additional cooling capacity for the shared engine and gearbox oil. The Mini’s compact engine bay means oil temperatures can rise significantly under sustained use. An oil cooler maintains the oil within its effective operating range, preserving viscosity and protective film strength, particularly beneficial on cars used for spirited driving, extended motorway cruising or in warm conditions.
MGOC Spares Range
The MGOC Spares Classic Mini oil filtering range covers oil filters for all engine variants including the MPi relocated position, oil filter housings, oil cooler kits and hoses, oil pressure switches, sump plugs, sump plug washers and all associated fittings.
