MGB & Midget - The Ultimate Guide to Interior Trim Upgrades

Floor/Tunnel/Rear Cockpit
For best results we recommend the use of Dynamat Xtreme, Dynatape, Dynaliner in combination of 1/8”, 1/4", 1/2" thicknesses, with a tailored Sound proofing kit manufactured from Jute applied over the top. Complete application of Dynamat xtreme within the cockpit, requires approximately x2 Bulk Packs for MGB and Midget and will offer maximum noise cancellation, increase stiffness of the cockpit and offer maximum corrosion protection, preventing air and moisture from reaching the steel. Dynaliner provides an effective thermal, oil and water resistant self-adhesive barrier designed to be applied over the top of Dynamat Xtreme. Its thermal insulation properties significantly reduce the heat conduction from the engine. Dynaliner can be applied over the gearbox tunnel, on the floor pans, within the foot-well and bulkhead areas to keep the cockpit temperature stable. Our advice is to use 1/8" Dylaliner for contoured areas such as the gearbox tunnel and to go with a thicker Dynaliner (1/4 or 1/2") for flat sections such as the floorpans or firewalls. Those on a limited budget can use sections of Dynamat Xtreme to provide some isolation although this offers little protection from water ingress and corrosion. 

Top Tip: To template the shape required, use sections of baking parchment paper and trace the area needed with a permanent marker. Trim with scissors and flip over, tracing the pattern onto the reverse side of your Dynamat or Dynaliner. For cutting Dynamat, we recommend using wallpaper scissors which should be cleaned periodically with thinner to remove the buildup of adhesive. Wearing gloves is essential to protect your hands from foil-based paper cuts.

With owners spending thousands on restorations giving some consideration to noise isolation and temperature control will elevate the quality of the build and overall enjoyment of the vehicle.

NB. It's worth mentioning that soundproofing works hand in hand with the carpet. Whilst it's not seen investing in, a comprehensive approach is money well spent. Carpets straight to the floor without soundproofing will not provide optimal comfort or longevity.

Doors
Our approach is to apply Dynamat Xtreme on the inside of the door skins to isolate rattles and on the door internal to protect the panel from water damage adding Waterproof door curtains, for MGBs and Midgets. 

Cards/Liners:
Door cards can be purchased in pairs, available as panels for MGB or Midget and as part of more extensive complete trim kits for MGB & Midget. Early cards were fitted using trim screws and cup washers in either black as original or nickel, with nickel available in roadster specification. Later MGB door cards require plastic trim panel fixings and Midget door cards require GHF1222 to secure. *Don't forget to add those water door curtains if you want them to last!

Door/Rear cappings:
Front and rear Cappings offered in Padded Vinyl (NB Black fine grain early/coarse grain early, colours fine grain all years) or Leather for MGB/GT, Burr walnut, Carbon Fibre, Burr Elm, Black Walnut for MGB/GT/Midgets Door capping covers are offered for Midget (NB. Recovering vinyl included within Newtons Midget Trim Kits) and available for MGB/GT wishing to refurbish the original.

Chrome brackets (Roadster) or  (GT) and screw sets available separately for mounting of front cappings for MGB/MGBGT. It’s important to remember to replenish the inner felt drop glass seal on the front capping if reusing or fitting veneered cappings. New front cappings are supplied manufactured from hardwood, with over-length felt strip for trimming exactly to the door.

Puddle Lights (R241):
Often overlooked until you put your foot in it! LED door and puddle light kit designed to provide rearward visibility of the door when opening for safety and illuminate the puddles at the road side. Requires 4 x ¾” holes in doors to fit. As fitted to MGOC Spares' red Supersports MGBV8.

Electric Windows:
Available for MGB, C, V8 from 65on. Strong and robust scissor folding regulators with motor, loom and switches. As fitted to our Supersports MGBV8.

Winder Handles:
We offer winder handles for all years of MGBs & Midgets in standard and uprated specifications. For MGBs & Midgets manufactured from 68 onwards, we offer original black plastic, chrome on brass and aluminium winder handles. For earlier cars we offer original specification winder handles for MGB & Midget. An escutcheon/spacer ring can fitted behind the winder handle to provide clearance of the winder handle arm where required. This to avoid scoring of the card and ease operation.

Interior Door Pulls:
Replacement door handles in standard specification or chrome specification suitable for MGBs up to 1968 & Midgets up to 1971, can be fitted to later doors but will require modification to achieve installation. For MGBs from 1968 to 71 & Midgets from 1971 to the end of production, a plastic door pull with screw finishers was fitted. MGBs from 1971 used a padded door pull extruded from polyurethane with a vinyl grain effect. We also offer veneer burr walnut door pulls to compliment our range of burr walnut trim.
