The most obvious change during the production of the MGB car was the replacement of the chrome bumpers to rubber in September 1974, this was to comply with the American 5mph impact requirements. The front grille underwent several changes throughout production, from 1962 – 1964 a stainless steel 36-piece vertical slat grille was used, this changed in 1964 - 1970 to a one-piece 39 slat pressed anodised aluminium grill. This changed again in 1970 – 1972 to a recessed grille with 37 vertical slats painted black and finally, for chrome bumper cars, a Honeycomb design black grille with anodised aluminium casing was used from 1973 - 1974 on the car. Rubber bumper cars did not have a specific grille, a black wire mesh was set into the design of the bumper itself. Notable other changes came in the form of the “Pull handle” design of the door handles switching over to the “Push button” design in 1965.
