MGF & TF Road Wheels

Road Wheels

Step into the realm of style and performance with our Wheels collection for MGF and MG TF models. This category is dedicated to transforming the look and drive of your vehicle with a selection of premium wheels. MGF Alloy wheels were standard on all models for all years. Up to mid 1999 when the face-lifted 2000 model year cars arrived there were just two wheel designs, both 15” diameters and 6” wide. The 1.8i had a six-spoke whilst the VVC had a 5 spoke style. Optional 16” wheels originally arrived with the Abingdon LE model in 1998 and were in a six-spoke design visually similar to the base 1.8i. Then in spring 1999 the 75th Anniversary models introduced the ‘Multispoke’ 16” design, which looks just like the title indicates. Shortly after in September 1999 the 2000 model year changes arrived, and with it a change of base 15” wheel style to an 8 spoke (Minilite wheel look) design. There was also a new square design six spoke rim in 15” diameter that was specific to the new Steptronic model, and visually very similar to another new style wheel in 16” diameter for the VVC model. The two other previous 16” option wheels, a six-spoke Minilite style and the Multispoke designs remained available as options. Whilst wheels fitted to an individual car were always the same size front and rear, the tyres fitted were different between front and rear axles. With the 15” wheels the tyre sizes are 185/55x15 front and 205/50x15 rear. When 16” wheels are used they are 7” wide and have 215/40x16 tyres all round, that is until 2001 when the Trophy 160 model introduced 195/45x16 tyres up front and retained the 215/40x16 tyres at the rear fitted, and these were fitted to a new 11 spoke style of alloy. MGTF Very expensive ultra lightweight 16” wheels were now an extra cost option under ‘Sportpack 3’, or as a later bought accessory, and can also fit around the big brakes, but at nearly £500 each rim this was a very low take up option! Other 16” wheel designs were carried over from the previous MGF except the MGF Trophy 160 SE wheels, and were available as either standard fit on some limited edition models, and as a general option/accessory including the standard TF 160 wheels, but note that none of these other wheels fit over the big brakes, aside from the ultra lightweight, MG Motor TF 16” V spoke design seen on some 2008 to 2011 cars, or the 2009 ‘Twist of Pepper’ 85th Anniversary wheels. Tyres found on the 16” wheels are 195/45x16 up front, and 215/40x16 on the rear. It is vitally important to reiterate here that mixing tyres on an MGF or TF is a recipe for disaster. This situation applies to cars with 15” diameter wheels too, but they are slightly less severe in negative reactions. Tyre sizes may differ, but the wheel size is common so the 15” rims are 6” wide and the 16” rims are 7” wide. Both cars needed very specific stiff tyres to stay safe on the road. After the collapse of MG Rover in 2005, the recommended tyre for both cars was the Falken ZE310 in the original standard sizes and appropriate pressure.
