Hoods were always in black cloth, although the Abingdon introduced a tan colour and the 75th Anniversary model could use a dark red hood. The TF introduced grey, green and blue options, later added too with burgundy red, along with other accessory hood colours from the MG Sport and Racing’s XPower range. Coloured hoods offer a useful visual boost to the car but are more difficult to maintain in tip top visual condition than black, but they can all be very easily retro fitted to MGFs.
Up until the very late 2005 models, all cars were fitted with clear plastic rear screens. The screens were prone to cloudiness and cracking with age which was accelerated by users folding the hood with the screen zipped up. In 2005 the TF was introduced with a glass rear window with markedly better rear visibility, as well as a heated rear window (HRW).
Hardtops only came with a couple of specific limited edition models otherwise were always an extra cost option or accessory either in the common gloss black or body colour at extra cost. Once the hard top HRW switch and relay are fitted then fitting the top to a car is literally a two-minute fit for two persons, and all tops fit both MGF and TF so buying from one to fit another is fine.
